Thom Hartman and 2003
I started listening to Thom Hartman on Air America in 2003. Back then, fresh from the shock of 9/11, I was becoming increasingly suspicious of US politicians and the direction in which the country seemed to be heading. I listened to Randi Rhodes as well. The two of them provided a sense of solace and comfort for my growing concern around the state of the world. At the very least they made me feel like I wasn’t alone in my distrust of the entity that was the US government.
I kind of lost track of them a little bit in the early teens, and only occasionally listened to Thom Hartmann when it seemed like it might be time to get a sense of what was really going on. Well, this is one of those times, and to my dismay, he has been discussing the very real possibility that the dude they call president will be finding ways to declare Marshal Law. I hate being an alarmist, I do, but I also feel compelled to share what I have been hearing and reading. It’s not good. I won’t go into it here, but if you’re interested you might want to watch this.
Art Stuff
I finished the commission for the Elvish mugs that say: “Live, Laugh, Love”

I’m really excited by this project and I’m feeling like I might want to go further down this Elvish path once I finish up the wall box line I have begun. I am going back to my sculptural roots, creatively speaking, and will be exploring my abstract and formal elements in my work. It’s great to work in a shop with so much unique and playful work. It makes me want to do more experimenting and playing within my art practice. Tomorrow I will create all the rebellion mugs that you all ordered. Thanks so much for supporting me in this way!
The Pollinator on YouTube
It’s happening. I will begin filming this week and posting the next. I’m super excited because I’m going to be having a lot of fun while also discussing what Fascism tastes like. (Hint, it’s rather putrid.)
Things I Love
My favorite living artist, Ai Weiwei, is at the Seattle Art Museum. I went to see the show this last week. It was tremendous. He is a true rebel.
I drove to Lynnwood and got on a train there to get to Seattle. Avoiding Seattle traffic is also something I dearly love.
I ate at Jade Garden. It’s my favorite place to eat in Seattle.
I took a bunch of origami butterflies to some kids at a school in town dressed as the bee. They were made out of topographic maps. I love all those things.
I love musicals. I’m in the beginning stages of writing songs about how to throw on the potters wheel. It’s a combination of Mary Poppins and School House Rock. It’s cracking me up.
thanks very much for opening and reading the newsletter! I know things are dark right now, but just remember, there are more of us than there are of them, and in the end, most of “them” end up being “us” too.
Don’t let the bastards get you down.

You like musicals you say? BAAY is doing an original post-apocalyptic interpretation of the Hundred Acre Woods that you might want to check out. One of my twins is in the show in early May. They even have a song about getting the bees back into the trees!
