One of the best things about my new job is that I’m constantly inspired to make my own work. I’m relieved to say that instead of figuring out ways to make work that I know will sell, I’m inspired by the artists in the shop who are making the work they are called to make, the work they are driven to make. The artists in the shop make work that is meaningful for them. This type of magic is priceless, and in addition to having a job that I really love to do, I am exposed to work and artists who inspire me every day I show up. It’s a gift I didn’t see coming and one that pushes me to make work that tickles me.
To that end, this week I spent time making ceramic cars as prototypes. I want to make clay vehicles with wheels that turn. I made small cars this week so I can monkey around with the axles, wheels, and mechanisms. As soon as I’ve those figured out, I will start making other vehicles, somewhat larger and more playful. I also put most of the “Fascism is Bullshit” mugs in the kiln, along with the Pollinator mugs I’m starting to make. All of this work is inspiring me to make more, and I’m feeling more juiced than ever by the work I’m doing. I’ll post pics as they come out of the glaze kilns.
I’ve also been reading The Bees by Laline Paull, a creative masterwork about bees that’s endlessly inspiring. It seems that my life is giving me all kinds of gifts along the lines of creative juice.
Speaking of which, you can find my Pollinator videos on YouTube. Like, follow, and share the videos with people who might be interested in fighting fascism with your friendly neighborhood pollinator. The more people I reach, the better, as it takes a village to beat a dictator.
I was featured in Cascadia Daily News as The Pollinator! Here I am on their YouTube Channel.
